deals with individual and group behaviour within organizations.
Students develop the ability to evaluate their own and others'

This course lays
the foundation knowledge in the use of the Internet in business
applications. It reviews the underlying technologies and how
they are used for Internet applications, taking a managerial
perspective. Topics include the Internet infrastructure; key
Internet applications, including e-mail and the World Wide Web;
research and collaboration tools; security issues; and social
and management issues. Hands-on experience is provided in online
applications and the key Internet programming languages to enhance
understanding of the technologies used.

This course
focuses on the management of network technologies in business
applications. It reviews the underlying telecommunications,
data communications, and networking technologies. The course
also provides an in-depth study of network components and topologies;
network planning and management; network security and access
control; management issues, including backup and recovery and
privacy and ethics; networking legal issues; and emerging technologies
and trends. This course takes a managerial perspective and is
designed to develop skills in selecting network technologies
and managing technical staff in networking.

- Directed Field Study I
Prerequisites
for Directed Field Studies I: Internet Applications,
Marketing Fundamentals, Organizational Behaviour Fundamentals,
and Network Management for Financial Managers
The Directed
Field Studies (DFS) component of the program involves either
one six month industry placement or two three-month placements
of paid work experience in an Accounting or Information Technology
related position. The academic requirements of the DFS courses
are scheduled to coincide with the CGA sessions.
The Directed Field Studies course is offered through the WebCT learning
management system. All student readings and assignments are on
WebCT; you will be granted access to the WebCT course a few days
prior to the official session start and will receive a welcome
email from your instructor with the information you need to
access the course within the first week of the session. There are no course materials mailed to you
from your CGA region.

This course
develops skills required to develop and manage E-Business applications
from a managerial perspective. It also develops skills in exploiting
E-Business for business applications. Topics include a managerial
perspective of E-Business; E-Business applications and opportunities;
E-Business payment methods; regulatory, taxation, and jurisdictional
issues; risk management; funding and marketing; and management
issues. Extensive online research is included in the course
work to enhance understanding of the E-Business issues covered.

Prerequisites:
Network Management for Financial Managers
This is
a foundation course in information management using database
technologies from a managerial perspective. It provides an overview
of information management; file and database organization and
applications; database design; database query and query tools;
and database applications for business and accounting applications.
Hands-on experience in database management is provided using
Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel to enhance understanding
of the concepts covered.
Please note: Microsoft Office Suite 2003 or higher with both
Access and Excel is required to complete this course.

an in-depth study of the defined set of project management procedures
used to produce a consistent and effective management methodology.
Topics include a comprehensive overview of the components that
encompass project management; the processes involved in starting,
controlling, managing, and successfully completing a project;
project budgeting and planning; risk management; human factors;
and strategies to mitigate systems development risks.

- Business Process Integration

for Financial Managers
Business
Process Integration focuses on enterprise systems and related
technologies applied in a business setting. The goal of this
course is to enable students to acquire an appreciation of managerial
and technical issues in business process integration issues.
The course focuses on existing and emerging enterprise systems
concepts, including supply chain management, customer relations
management, and enterprise resource planning (ERP); however,
it is not designed to teach students how to use any specific
ERP software package. The course also provides guidance on business
process integration for small- to medium-sized businesses.
