Directed Field
Studies
The Directed Field Studies
(DFS) component of the program follows the CGA schedule and requires students
to complete a minimum 450 hours in an approved work environment
per course. This
experiential learning component must be completed in an accounting or
information technology related environment. Degree students may complete this
academic requirement in their current work environment including
self-employment, and are responsible for securing their industry placements.
Unemployed students will not
be able to complete the DFS portion of the degree and therefore will not be
able to graduate regardless of the reason (eg: maternity leave, disability,
etc).
While employed, academic learning
is integrated with industry through the completion of assigned readings,
applied research, written projects and business cases related to employment
under the guidance of faculty mentors. It is anticipated that no more than 10
hours per week of academic work is required throughout the DFS.
During the directed field studies
portion of the degree, students will receive and complete the academic
components online.
