1. Why should
I enroll in this Degree Program?
Information
Technology has become a major skill requirement for professional
accountants. This program has been developed in response to
the growing need for accountants with expertise in Information
Technology. Accounting courses emphasize technology issues,
and Information Technology courses focus on Accounting and Management
Information Systems. The integration of the two subject areas
leads to a unique and highly marketable skill set. See Graduate

What is a Directed Field Studies or DFS course?
The Directed
Field Studies (DFS) component of the program involves a
minimum of 450 hours of paid work experience per term in an
industry placement either
one, 6 month (900 hour) or two, 3 month (450 hour each) industry placements of paid
work experience. This experiential learning component must be
completed in an accounting or information technology related
environment. Degree students may complete this academic requirement
in their current work environment including self-employment,
and are responsible for securing their industry placements.

How do I apply for the program?
To apply
for the program simply visit our Application
& Registration
page to ensure you qualify for the program and then download
the application form to apply.
4.
I am a BAccS student and am interested in the SAIT degree. If
I transfer to the SAIT program, will I have to repeat any courses?
For students
currently enrolled in the BAccS program, AU2 (Auditing 2) will
be accepted for MU1 (Management Auditing1) in the Accounting
/IT program, and MG1 (Organization and Leadership) will be accepted
in lieu of Organizational Behavior Fundamentals. All other courses
must be completed as outlined in the degree program of study.
This transition will be available for all current and former
students enrolled in the BAccS degree program.
5.
I have applied for admission to the SAIT program. How long do
I have to wait before I am notified as to whether or not I am
accepted into the program?
SAIT will
process your complete application for admission (including application
form, CGA transcript or CGA letter of member in good standing,
and $35.00 application fee) within 30 working days of receipt
of all required documents.
In order to be registered in the program before a session begins,
applications must be received at least 6 weeks prior to the
session start date.
6.
Do I have to apply to SAIT and register with my regional CGA
office?
Yes. To
apply to the program, follow the instructions on the application
form available on the SAIT website at Application
& Registration.
Registration for SAIT degree courses is facilitated through
your Regional
CGA office once you have been admitted by SAIT into the
degree program.
7.
When is the deadline for admission to the program?
Program
applications are accepted on an on-going basis. Applications
must be received at least six weeks prior to the enrolment deadline
of the session you want to register in. Enrollment
deadlines for the SAIT degree courses coincide with the regional
enrollment deadlines for the CGA Program of Professional
Studies. Please contact your
Regional
CGA office for
details on enrollment deadlines for each session.
8.
Can I enroll in a SAIT degree course before I have heard back
regarding my application?
No, there
are no conditional enrollments in courses. However, you are
encouraged to continue in the CGA Program of Professional Studies
while waiting for your SAIT degree admission status.
9.
Is there a time limit to complete the program?
Students
are required to complete the SAIT degree program within 7 years
of admission into the program. There is no provision for non-active
years.
10.
How many attempts am I permitted on a course?
A student is granted
two attempts to successfully complete each course. Under special circumstances approval may be granted for a third
attempt by the Dean of School of Business. If the third attempt of a course results in a failure,
a degree will not be issued.
11.
I have taken Organizational Behaviour and Marketing courses at
another post secondary institution. How do I find out if I qualify for an exemption
from Organizational Behaviour and Marketing?
If you are interested
in determining if previously taken post-secondary courses will
be exempt, you are encouraged to forward an official transcript
to the address below with your application for admission form
for an official assessment.

12.
Is there a moratorium for acceptance of CGA members into the
program?
No, CGAs
in good standing can be admitted into the program regardless
of how long it has been since they completed the CGA Program
of Professional Studies.
13.
I am a CGA member. Am I required to complete MU1 and MS2 if
I did not complete them in my original program?
No. Members
in good standing are only required to take the SAIT IT and
breadth courses
and Directed Field Studies.
14.
I am a CGA member interested in completing one or two courses
only for professional development purposes. Can I enroll in
SAIT degree courses?
You must
submit a completed application for admission
including a $25.00 application fee to SAIT and then are
eligible to enroll in any of the degree courses through your Regional office.
15.
Where do I find out more information on the CGA Program of Professional
Studies?

16.
What if I have completed courses in either Level 4 and/or PACE
level?
Students
who have completed courses in Level 4 and PACE will receive
automatic credit for these courses within the degree program.
17.
I do not have a background in IT. How will I cope with the
IT side of this degree?
The IT
courses are taught from an accounting/financial management
perspective and start at an introductory level. There is
no requirement for you to have a background in technology.
18.
Exactly what is an applied degree?
An applied
degree is an undergraduate degree that incorporates work
experience learning with academic studies. This is
achieived through the work experience component of the Directed
Field Studies. These 'on-the-job' learning experiences
together with the practical applications perspective of the
other SAIT courses will provide you with an excellent
combination of theoretical knowledge and real-world experience.
19.
Are there any 'in-class' options for course delivery?
Courses
can be taken in a classroom format at
SAIT in Calgary, Humber College in Toronto ,
Conestoga College
in Kitchener,
Vancouver Community College and at Seneca College in Toronto.
20.
How much time will I need for studying under this partnership?
Students
should expect to spend 20 hours per week for CGA courses.
Individual SAIT courses will require between eight and 10 hours
of study per week, allowing students to complete two SAIT
courses per session if they so choose.
21.
The SAIT Directed Field Studies require me to be working at a
full-time job. Will this work count towards the work
experience requirement of the CGA program of Professional
Studies as well?
The CGA
will assess this work experience and if it meets the appropriate
criteria, may count it towards the work experience requirements
of the CGA program of
Professional Studies.
22.
Once I have been accepted into the degree program, do I have to
enroll in degree courses right away?
Upon
acceptance into the degree program, students must activate their
program by enrolling in a course (or courses) within one year of
their acceptance date. If they do not register in any
courses within a year of acceptance date, they must re-register.
23. How do I apply for my parchment once I have completed all of
the courses for the applied degree?
Once you have
successfully completed all of the courses within the Bachelor of
Applied Business Administration, Accounting and IT program, you
will need to apply for your parchment. Click on the
following Parchment
Request Form link, print a copy of the form, fill in the
applicable information and mail or fax it to our Customer
Service Department. (contact information is listed on the form)
24. How and why to order your transcript upon
completion of the Applied Degree?
Upon
successful completion of the Bachelor of Applied Business
Administration, your CGA Regional Office may require you to
submit an official copy of your SAIT transcript to show that you
have completed the Applied Degree. After you have applied
for your parchment, you will then need to request a copy of your
official SAIT transcript to be sent to your CGA Regional Office,
click on the following
Transcript Request Form, print a copy of the form, fill in
the application and mail or fax to our Customer Service
Department (contact information s listed on the form).
Note: There
is a $10.00 charge per copy.
25.
I understand that the degree will be phased out
as of September 30th, 2014. Will there be any
opportunity to complete degree courses after this date?
All
students must plan well in advance to ensure that they have
completed the program by the deadline as there will be no course
offerings beyond September 30th, 2014.
